Hobart Podiatrists & Footwear Shop
A specialist footwear retailer with a loyal local customer base has a ceiling. The stock is curated, the expertise is real, and the product range is genuinely hard to find elsewhere. But if you can only sell to people who walk through the door in Hobart, you’re leaving most of your potential market untouched.
The client
Hobart Podiatrists & Footwear is a Hobart-based podiatry practice that also runs a footwear shop stocking podiatrist-selected brands. Their range focuses on supportive, orthotic-friendly shoes across a broad selection of styles, sneakers, boots, sandals, dress shoes, and more. Brands include Ziera, Xelero, Dr Comfort, Klouds, Propet, and Archies, most of which are hard to find in mainstream footwear retail.
The challenge
The practice had a website for their podiatry services but no way to sell footwear online. Everything happened in-store. That worked for existing patients and walk-ins, but it meant the shop’s reach stopped at the Hobart city limits. For a retailer stocking specialist brands that customers around Australia are actively searching for, that’s a significant gap.
The goal was to open an online channel that could serve customers beyond Tasmania, without adding complexity the practice team couldn’t manage day to day.
What we built
A Shopify store built for a specialist retailer
Shopify is well suited to this kind of retail operation. It handles the transactional infrastructure, payments, shipping, inventory, and orders, without requiring technical knowledge to manage. For a practice whose core business is podiatry, not e-commerce, that matters. The team needed to be able to add products, update stock, and process orders without a developer on call.
We set up and configured the store using an existing Shopify theme, customised to suit the shop’s product range and the way their customers are likely to browse. The navigation is structured around how people actually shop for supportive footwear, by gender, style, and brand, making it straightforward to find what you’re looking for whether you know exactly what you want or you’re browsing by category.
Built around how customers shop for this type of product
Shopify’s theme ecosystem provides a solid foundation, but the configuration choices still matter. Size charts are surfaced clearly, which is important for a product category where fit is everything and returns are a real cost. Brand pages let customers who already know and trust a label find their options quickly. The sale section is easy to find without dominating the store’s overall feel.
The result is a store that reflects the practice’s authority in the space. It doesn’t look like a generic dropshipping operation. It looks like what it is: a curated range selected by people who actually know feet.
The result
Hobart Podiatrists & Footwear now has an online retail channel that extends their reach well beyond their physical location. Customers across Australia can browse and buy a range of specialist footwear that’s genuinely difficult to find elsewhere, without needing to visit a clinic in Hobart to do it.
